    Attended North Prospect infants and junior school. Passed scholarship (11+) and went onto Sutton High School for Boys in Plmouth September 1951. Sutton not a success and left after 4 years with no formal qualifications. Passed the examination to become a Ship Fitter apprentice and did a 5 year apprenticeship September 1955- 1960. Worked on various ships and submarines. Worked a combination lathe in 79 Shop HM Dockyard. In 1966 left tools behind, joined the Finance Department and became a Recorder of Work. Supervising clocking stations and measuring the output of piece workers. Gained a certificate in management 'National Examinations Board for Supervisory Studies in 1983. Unable to gain promotion within the Finance, passed interview and became an Estimator in the Main Mechanical Factory. Had a favourable reception here and within a short time was made a First Line Manager in a machine area. Within the year of leaving the Finance Department was invited to take a promotional interview to become a Leading Recorder, another successful move back into the world of Finance. 1985 brough privatisation of the Royal Dockyards. Looking for an opening in the new world asked for training to enter into Management Accounting. Attended a gruelling 10 week course at Worthy Down Army Camp, Winchester where the equivalent of 3 A Levels were obtained. Had 2 very quick promotions before becoming one of the first Management Accountants in the newly owned private dockyard run by Devonport Management Limited (DML). was accepted as a Member into the Association of Accounting Technicians and had M.A.A.T added to the name. Over the ensuing years many different duties were undertaken and further promotions obtained ending up as one of the senior Management Accoutants in DML. December 1995 brought an opportunity to take 'Early Retirement' what a bonus after a superb working life. Left DML 24/12/1995. Was invited to return to the company on 2 separate occasions being employed as a consultant.
